The new independent label, Paul is Dead Records, launched with the release of a massive 60 song compilation to benefit AAPI (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) and Tibetan refugee communities.
As racial tensions and hate crimes against AAPI communities have increased at an alarming rate, label founders Evan Mui, Reed Smidebush and Austen Bemis called upon friends and family in the music scene to raise awareness and funds. Simultaneously, the label is donating proceeds to aid the Covid-19 crisis tearing through Tibetan refugee communities in India and Nepal.
The Bandcamp-exclusive, 'Subversive to Care,' includes an eclectic lineup with songs from Frankie Rose, Tennis System, Wake Up, Surfer Blood, Easy Love, Jolie Holland & David Coulter, Chelsea Rose, Spaceface, Snowball ii, Eternal Summers and more.
On the idea behind the title of the comp., the label notes that while "the initial ethos of subculture was to rebel against the conservative and oppressive norms of society" these days "what is truly subversive is to care for your fellow human and be a genuinely compassionate and altruistic person."
Subvert hate and extend compassion by purchasing the compilation on Bandcamp. 100% of the proceeds will be split between The National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (www.NAPAWF.org), Asian Mental Health Collective (www.ASIANMHC.org) and The Tibet Fund (www.TIBETFUND.org).
